The theme for the second edition of MPB-BPM - Black Atlantic was the afro-caribbean influence on electronic music. The event counted on the participation of Norman Jay (www.normanjay.com), who is considered the ´father of DJs` in the UK, the sociologist and lecturer at the University of Yale in the USA, Paul Gilroy, and the Brazilian DJ Marky, who has made his mark on the London musical scene with his own style of drum`n bass.

While the DJs presented shows, Paul Gilroy led a series of round-tables on the theme of ´Black Atlantic: Music, Culture and Identity` , where he outlined the evolution of black music in Britain from 1969 to 2000. He also launched his book "Black Atlantic" , published in Brazil by Editora 34 in partnership with the Center for Afro-Asian Studies of the Cândido Mendes University in Rio de Janeiro.

The musical presentations took place in SESC Belenzinho in São Paulo, at the III Cultural Market in Salvador, and at the Bunker in Rio.

There were fascinating off-stage encounters between Norman Jay, Marky and the musicians who took part in the III Cultural Market. There were also unlikely episodes such as the attack by massed ranks of flying ants on the stage in Salvador, minutes before the show.
