Fernando is the leader of the band Cidadão Instigado, which was formed in 1994 and has just recorded its first CD, O Ciclo Da Dê.Cadência.

The band looks for a visual way to make music, using the essence of various styles such as jazz, the blues, drum n` bass, samba and other Brazilian musical styles such as repente, brega and maracatu. Despite the diversity of styles, they blend together and produce a musical form that is dense, climactic and involving.

According to Catatau, it is difficult to identify all the musical influences on his work. He likes many different styles, such as Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Roberto Carlos, Frussiante, Ennio Morricone, Nelson Cavaquinho, Tom Zé, Hermeto Pascoal, Richie Havens, King Crimson, Bob Marley - and others.

As well as working with Cidadão Instigado, Catatau plays with Otto and with players from the Instituto. He played on CDs recorded by Zeca Baleiro and Nação Zumbi and composes sound tracks for short films.

" I think this project with the Scots will be really interesting, helping people with very different languages and cultures communicate, but through music. Could there be anything better? I think it will be great fun."
