Yo Soy el Monstruo que os Habla
[Can the Monster Speak?]

The work recreates the conference speech Paul B. Preciado delivered to 3,500 psychoanalysts in Paris in 2019. Drawing a parallel with Kafka’s A Report to an Academy, where an incarcerated monkey learns the human language and speaks to a group of scientists, the Spanish philosopher addressed the meeting of psychoanalysts as a trans man and non-binary person, socially characterized as pathological and gender dysphoric. His aim was not only to denounce the violence that psychology perpetrates against dissident bodies, but also invite this field to open itself to gender mutations. In the show, Preciado presents on stage five “monsters”, trans and non-binary people, to leave the cage they have been put in by the ruling norms and make up other forms of freedom.

Paul B. Preciado is a philosopher, writer, and curator from Spain who is internationally acknowledged for his activism and contributions to philosophy, especially to queer theory and gender studies. He was decidedly influenced by Agnes Heller and Jacques Derrida. his work Manifiesto Contrasexual [Countersexual Manifesto], written in 2002, is considered a point of reference for queer theory.
