This reinterpretation of the Greek myth of Persephone, a character that is kidnapped and raped by her uncle Hades, god of the underworld, places the audience as the witnesses to a story as old as it is repeated. The viewers listen to the narrative through earphones while they watch the gestures performed by the actors in an open space. The narration offers a variety of possibilities, which makes the cast rewind and redo their actions from different angles. The multiple questions, however, have the same purpose: to understand the origins of patriarchal violence. The title has a double meaning: it is both the pomegranate (granada, in Spanish) that Persephone eats so she can break free, and the explosive, launched as a weapon to promote change.

Paula Aros Gho is a performing artist with a degree from the University of Chile and a master’s degree from Dartington College of Arts (United Kingdom). Her research is focused on exposing the copresence of audiences, artists, and spaces. To this end, she aims to develop playwriting that includes spatial, territorial, and social contexts, as well as the biography of the cast. She is currently the director of the Theater School of Universidad Mayor, in Chile.
