Cabaré Coragem
[Cabaret Courage]

Through the cabaret universe, Grupo Galpão presents a decadent troupe that, despite tribulations, reiterates art as the space of permanence and identity. The production draws inspiration from Bertolt Brecht’s work—the title alludes to his character Mother Courage—and combines a repertoire of live music, comic skits, variety shows, and dance performances, plus fragments of the German author’s writings and the group’s own playwrighting. By integrating the audience into the scene, as if viewers were the cast’s accomplices, Galpão discusses aging and art making, reaffirming its own longevity.

Grupo Galpão, from Belo Horizonte, has been continuously active for more than 40 years, and it is renowned for its research on language. By producing shows with guest directors – including Gabriel Villela, Cacá Carvalho, Paulo José, Yara de Novaes, and Marcio Abreu – or staged by members of the group, Galpão develops a theater language that is both popular and erudite, between tradition and contemporaneity, the streets and the stage, the universal and the Brazilian regional.
