Cruzades
[Crisscrossed]

The show puts two artists from different choreographic backgrounds on the scene, creating a conversation through movement. Jon Maya, with his Basque dance, and Adriana Bilbao, a flamenco dancer, are on the stage, each one expressing themselves in their own language, to the music of Julen Achiary. But in these expressions of different cultures and specific identities, the performers do not aim to oppose one another, but rather find an understanding through their dance. In this game, it feels like they are combining their roots so that, together, they can extend across great leafage. 

Jon Maya is a dantzari (a dancer, in the Basque language), a choreographer, and the director of the company Kukai Dantza. He graduated in the world of traditional dance and started to engage in dialogues with different styles since the creation of the group, which conceives contemporary shows through Basque dance and in collaboration with different choreographers. 

Adriana Bilbao’s dance is marked by more traditional flamenco, but her interest in refreshing herself has led her to experiment other choreographic codes. In addition to her work as a creator and dancer, she manages a dance creation factory in Bilbao side by side with D8 Sorkuntza Faktoria.
