Poperópera Transatlântica
[PumpitoperaTransatlantica]

Continuing the collective’s investigation into topics connected to the theater of the real and documentary theater, MEXA connects personal stories from the group’s performers with Homer’s epic poem Odyssey. In an opera that revisits 1990s dance music, the artists experiment ways of enacting this Greek narrative today and build their own mythology based on their individual journeys and the group’s journey, crossing the ocean to present the show on an international tour.

MEXA is a performance group that has been active for nine years in the city of São Paulo, doing research on the borders between reality and fiction, autobiography and documentary theater, blurring the lines between art and life. Its latest shows, Poperópera Transatlântica [Pumpitopera Transatlantica] (2023) and A Última Ceia [The Last Supper] (2024), made their debut at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, in Brussels. Since 2016, MEXA members are also working as artists-in-residence at Casa do Povo.
