El Presidente Más Feliz
[The Happiest President]

By bringing together dance, music, and audiovisual creations, this satire addresses how corruption and abuse of power pervade the social fabric and affect the population’s wellbeing. The symptoms appear especially on the bodies of the performers, in choreographed dances that suggest poles of tension and affection. They are also displayed in scenes and dialogues that ironically portray situations of inequality and political arbitrariness. The show questions the way excessive power leads to crises and uncertainties, polarizes discourses, fragments the common space, and inhibits our mutual help and cooperation abilities. 

Cristina Velarde is a choreographer, performative researcher, and professor at the Performative Arts Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. She has a law degree and concluded her master’s thesis in European Live Performance art at the Free University of Brussels. Over the course of her experience, she has collaborated with different artists from Peru and other countries.
